Many of us were taught that for cooling we need ice, but ice cold drinks burden our digestion. The beautiful flowers of Rose and Hibiscus are cooling in nature and in their intelligent ways cool the body while helping the lymphatic system, liver and blood. Try this refreshing summer drink.
For warm summer days make this lovely cooling Rose-Hibiscus tea recipe for a refreshing cold drink or warm tea. You can mix the flowers yourself or purchase a ready-made organic mix in my shop.
According to Ayurveda, hibiscus has a sweet and astringent taste, and has a cooling effect on the body. “Because of its affinity for the lower region of the body, hibiscus has often been used to support the female reproductive organs and menstruation, promote healthy urination, and support the health and function of the kidneys. [..] Ayurveda also uses the bright, healing qualities of hibiscus flowers to support the heart and circulatory system, recognizing their ability to purify the blood, promote a clear, glowing complexion, and uplift the heart (both physically and spiritually).”
Rose petal tea improves digestion yet remains cooling and soothing. The astringency of rose petal directly cools digestive irritation and inflammation.
R E C I P E · Rose-Hibiscus infusion
You can make a warm infusion from the dried flowers and drink it directly as a tea, or make a sun / moon infusion and drink it at room temperature. For a warm tea you use around 2 teaspoons of flowers, while for a cold infusion (like in the recipe below) you use 2 tablespoons per liter of water.
method sun / moon infusion
· add 2 tablespoons of hibiscus-rose tea to a liter of cold water
· cover and let it sit in the sun for 2–6 hours, or prepare it in the evening and put the bottle in the moon light for extra cooling energy
· in both cases it is ready when you feel it is
· then simply strain it, so you have a clear beautiful colored tea
· if you like you can add a few mint leaves or if you’d like to sweeten it a little, maple syrup would be best
· drink room temperature and enjoy the beautiful cooling power of these plants
